About our ferrets

FERRET

1. A weasellike, usually albino mammal (Mustella putorius furo) related to the polecat and formerly bred to hunt rats or rabbits.
American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language

2. A black-footed ferret.(currently the rarest mammel in North America)

3. An adorable, intelligent, high-energy housepet sometimes described as a cross between a kitten and a two-year-old. Nothing at all like a rat or a gerbil, a ferret's greatest desire is to put every sock in the universe away in the right place: under your couch.

A Few Words About Owning Ferrets

Properly kept and cared for, ferrets are fun, energetic, loving, fullfilling housepets. However, ferrets are not an ideal pet for everyone. They demand as much time and energy as cats and dogs. They need to be handled and trained, just like dogs and cats, to keep them gentle and well-behaved. They can be litterbox and nip trained, and more or less leash trained. They require skilled veterinary care and annual vaccines. Unfortunately, many people buy ferrets because pet store kits are adorable, knowing very little about them, and never bother to inform themselves. The result is usually a messy, misbehaved ferret, who is abandoned to a shelter or worse when he's not little anymore (they are always cute!), or a ferret who dies at a tragically early age due to his owner's ignorance, or the lack of good veterinary care. PLEASE read up on ferrets before purchasing one.

I could go on for 500 more lines on the bare essentials of ferret ownership. Instead, I have provided a link below to an EXCELLENT ferret FAQ. Check it out.
