Hobbes came to us under less-than-happy circumstances. We found her in a petshop, somewhat thin, and when we asked about her found out she'd been left on their doorstep in a box, starving, with a note that listed only her age, and that she wasn't wanted anymore. Her friend, a tiny sable girl, had been abandoned with her, but she was very thin, frail, and sick, and was being kept in the back. We agreed to take the ferret on the condition that we got them both, not wanting to break up a pair. Sadly, the little sable died of complications of malnutrition before we could take her home. So Hobbes came home with us solo. She's about 6 years old (as of summer 2001) and is completely white except for a gray spot on her head and some gray in her tail. Her (dark) eyes have a reddish tint, and Hobbes is deaf, presumably from birth. We think these abnormalities were caused by a genetic condition called Waardenburg Syndrome, which unfortunately is common in "exotic" colored ferrets. She's very possessive of her things (especially her sock collection!) and lives alone because she's still somewhat insecure and aggressive, but she's improving wonderfully and turning into a sweet, playful, social ferret.
