December 25, 2000:
Geo got Wizard as a birthday present
in January of 1998 along with her buddy Joey, because he had fallen in love with the homeless fuzzies.
They were a steal ($40 for the pair) on the condition that they be loved and taken good care of,
and that the pair not be separated until Joey had passed on. Wizard was a small female with a soft, fluffy
sable coat. She was intelligent, quiet, gentle, and sweet. The whole time we had her, she never bit anyone once,
and we trusted her to play nicely with even very small children. We called her our "kissin' rat" because she loved to
give kisses on your mouth and nose until your face was red and sore, and would sometimes clean your eyebrows
and/or moustache. Her great vices were raisins (of course), drinking out of "people glasses", and playing on computer
keyboards.
In April of 2000 Wizard started having tummy aches and intestinal problems. We did the gamut of tests
and treatments, tried different vets, and no one could tell us what was wrong with her. By the fall, we thought our
sweetheart was well again. Then her friend Mia left us in November, and Wizard lost interest in playing or socializing with
other ferrets. Her intestinal problems came back last week, and she lost interest in everything else. When Wizard stopped
giving kisses, I knew something was very wrong. She faded very quickly and left us early Christmas morning.
We were never sure how old wizard was, certainly at least 5 or 6 when she left us. What is certain is that Wizard was one of
the best, sweetest, and most loving pets we've ever had. We miss her warmth and kisses already, and hope that she's in a better
place now, reunited with her friends Mia and Joey, playing amid fields of raisins and waterfalls of Pepsi. We love you, Little Girl.
We'll never ever forget you and how much joy you brought us.
